Description

Here is ngc 3631, a rather nice face-on galaxy that is not as easy as you might

think. I've tried this on many previous ocassions and not got a lot to show for

my efforts. This is definitely the best yet.

Arp was mainly interested in the 'heavy arm' to the North and extending

Eastwards in my image.

This is actually quite a long exposure (for me) and consists of 35 x 180 sec

exposures sigma combined in AA3. I had to do a bit of background work to get rid

of some uneven illumination which seems to have suddenly cropped up in my

images. Bit annoying but probably I need to pay more attention to collimation

and getting the camera normal to the light path. Or it may just be the dreaded

condensation which plagues me constantly!

Not too bad - don't know what actually caused the straight arm, not much sign of

any interactions going on that I can see, although the straight arm does appear to point towards a small blurry blob on the extreme left of my image. Must have been a long time ago.
