Description

Here's another Arp galaxy, this one is Arp 280, ngc 3769, an interacting pair of galaxies in Ursa Major. It is about 50 MLy away from us and is a member of the Ursa Major cloud of galaxies which also includes M108 and M109.

NGC 3769 is mag. 11.7, ngc 3769a, the smaller of the 2 is mag. 14.7. On the Northern edge of NGC 3769 is a small smudge described as a 'knot' in the Arp atlas. SKY-MAP.ORG shows it to be 2 seperate entities with 2 seperate numbers and a mags of 17 and 18 respectively. It looks like an edge-on spiral, probably seen through ngc 3769 but it could be interacting with 3769. Difficult to say as I can't find any redshift data for the 'knot'.

You can just see it in my image, which consists of a total of 96 minutes of exposure made up from 2, 3 and 4 minutes subs.

Only another 150 or so Arps to go!
