Description

The Cocoon Nebula, IC 5146 is a reflection/emission nebula in Cygnus.

Taken last month, during an annoying few days when the skies were clear when I began imaging but clouded up within minutes. This exposure is only 24 minutes, not enough for a sigma combine but it didn't turn out too bad for a fairly difficult subject.

Anyone know why the Cocoon is so pink and most other reflection nebulae, ie ngc 7023 are so blue?

There are a lot of dark lanes throughout and around the Cocoon, caused, I believe, by the dark nebula, Barnard 168.

Back to Arp galaxies now the summer is over,
