Description

It is an impressive emission nebula in the Cygnus constellation. Specifically, it is a Wolf-Rayet nebula, formed by the stellar wind caused by a star that became a red giant 400,000 years ago. The collision of the winds formed that bluish envelope that expands towards the interior and the hot red one that moves towards the interior. It was discovered by William Herschel in 1792, it is about 25 light-years in diameter and about 5000 light-years away from us.

Wolf-Rayet stars have not yet used up all their fuel and nuclear fusion reactions continue to take place in their core. They have not yet expelled the material due to the supernova explosion and formed the supernova remnant. These stars end up, yes, exploding as a supernova; that is, they are two different phases in the evolution of the star.
