Description

Managed to squeeze in 90mins on the ubiquitous 'Flaming Horsehead' combo between twilight and 75% moon last night. Conditions were better than the have been - seeing around 4arcsec, and with the occasional cloud coming through.

Chose to keep the GSO RC8 on the mount (rather than the SW Esprit 100) since in thought imaging at f/8 might reduce the effect of Alnitak, particularly with 30sec subs. It didn't really work, but for me the classic Horsehead/Flame picture needs to have diffraction spikes in it.

The is my first non-DSLR image of the Horsehead (and second overall) and I hadn't really realised just how tough a target this is to shoot and process. I still have a long way to go on this one, but I though I would post this on the basis of the 80:20 rule. Resampled at 2px (1.5arcsec) after processing to better match 3-4 arcsec seeing).
