Description

My shift ended at 9pm and the sky was partly covered in auroras by then. I quickly grabbed my camera from home and walked into the nearby wilderness where I would spend a while waiting for something big to happen. Hours later I was unsure if I wanted to stay much longer as there were some clouds and also the aurora wasn't that special, but at some point I saw some faint blood red auroras located low in the south sky behind the hills. I wanted to get a better view and some trees for the photo which required a bit of swimming in the deep snow. Shortly after the aurora moved higher into the sky the reds got incredibly bright and vivid in color, but disappeared after a minute or two. The bright green and fast-moving pink auroras took over the entire sky, but it was the short moment of the blood red auroras that made the night very special. The photo is taken with a regular mirrorless camera and not an astromodified one which would let more red color through.
