Description

IC5070, The Pelican Nebula, is a bright emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus. It lies 1800 light years from our backyard. There are some amazing star forming regions, especially Herbig-Haro object 555, which lies on the end of one  of the large pillars of gas.

This was a great object to image, as it is rich in all three narrowband filters. The detail and clarity that can be captured was very surprising. It is one of those objects that you can just explore the gas cloud, looking at all its features and trying to figure out whats going on in the clouds.

It was not all fun with this image though. Several days after completing my narrowband data I started to acquire RGB data for stars. However, unknown to me something happened that introduced some tilt in my imaging train and I was left with not so round stars. I hope the egg stars are not to distracting, but I had moved on to another target, changing my imaging train so I did not go back and re-shot the stars.

Thanks for looking!

Dan.
