Description

NGC 4449, also known as Caldwell 21, was first discovered by William Herschel in 1788.

It is a small irregular "global" starburst galaxy 12.5 million light years away, and is part of the M94 Group, 
or Canes Venatici I Group that is relatively close to our own Local Group.
