Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a small but beautiful grand design spiral galaxy located 110 million light years away in the constellation of Hercules at a declination of +20 degrees.  It is a blue magnitude 13 galaxy which spans 2.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 80,000 light years.  We are seeing this galaxy about 30 degrees from edge-on.

Pink HII regions and blue star clouds are seen throughout the disk, surrounding the small yellow core.  Dust lanes are seen in the inner disk region.  The galaxy is asymmetric, as if something is mildly disturbing it.
