Description

Clear nights come rare in this winter season in the Netherlands, so one has to use the opportunity even when the Moon is too bright - like earlier this week. Besides capturing the rendez vous of the two comets (C/2022 E3 and C/2022 U2 - yet to be processed), i focused a narrow band approach on two targets, the M1 (Crab Nebula) and the Rosette Nebula. Here is my take of the M1, which is btw also my second more serious shooting with the 11" Celestron EDGE HD.
I had to throw away a number of frames, partly due to the errors in guiding when a massive DEC backlash developed in the second half of the night (probably due to freezing temperatures, something got loose in the EQ6R mount), partly due to loss of detail when the target came too close to the horizon towards the end of the second session. Thus, at the end, only 3.5 hours out of nearly 5 hours of data were used. Still, i think it's a usable result.
This is a straight SHO color mapping with no further hue or saturation adjustments (only pushed the vibrance 20% up in PS).

Title: M1 / Crab Nebula - version in real colors

Description: In this version, i have mapped the three channels - H-alpha, O-iii and S-ii - into the real colors of their spectral lines (i.e. hydrogen and sulfur respective hues of red, and oxygen turquoise).
