Description

The Dumbbell Nebula (M27) is a planetary nebula in the constellation Vulpecula. It is approximately 1,360 light years from Earth. It was formed by a dyeing star throwing off shells of ionized gas. The central star, seen in the middle, has diminished to a white dwarf, but it is the largest known.
