Description

I chose my second mono narrowband image to be the Western Veil. Not necessarily one of my favorites, but it grew on me over the 4 nights I collected the data.
This was collected for a summer project our group on Nebula Photos is working on. I might still try to collect more Ha and SII data in the coming nights if weather permits.

The Western Veil or Witch's Broom, cataloged as Caldwell 34 or NGC 6960, is part of a large supernova remnant in the Cygnus constellation called the Cygnus Loop. The other nebulae are the "Eastern Veil" and Pickering's Triangle. The structure lies at 2400 LY from Earth and stretches over a distance of 3° in the sky, 6 times the size of a full moon. The entire structure is approximate 120 LY in diameter.

Title: Western Veil - C34 (PI process)

Description: After quite some time working now with PixInsight, I decided to revisit my second mono image and do a full PI processing from stacking to the end. There might have been a few lesser subs used as I selected more carefully. But what a difference in outcome. I still can get this better with more practice. Some of my friends and, I am sure lots of you too thinks: Uhhhh, why did he leave the green in it. Well, first I processed it the classical SHO way and killed all the green possible. Then I went to bed and during falling asleep I thought, I actually like that particular green above the main structure...and what the hack, the image is color mapped anyways and there is nothing natural to it! So, for this time I masked everything around and left the green, actually even intensified it a bit in the area I wanted it. It suits the Which well...
