IC 1805 the Heart Nebula

This is not what I wanted to image last night. I planned on imaging NGC 7023 the Iris Nebula. I've never imaged NGC 7023 with my William Optics ZenithStar 61 refractor and I wanted to see how it would do with this object. For some reason I could not get my mount to select and slew to NGC 7023. I would pick an alignment star and when this was calibrated I would do a select and slew to NGC 7023 and my mount would move and then stop as if it was on NGC 7023. I then would take a test image and I could not see NGC 7023 in my test image. I tried using several different alignment stars with no success. I then tried double star alignment and still no success. I don't know what the problem was. After wasting 40 minutes I decided to pick another target to see if the mount would put me on it. I chose IC 1805 as my target. I did a one star alignment and then a select and slew to IC 1805. This time IC 1805 was in my image. I did a little framing and then began imaging. When I went outside the sky was clear. However shortly after I began imaging IC 1805 clouds began to move in and out. I fought with clouds the entire night. I kept imaging hoping that I could get enough usable images. However I wound up having to trash almost half of my light frames due to clouds and I used some light frames that I probably shouldn't have. There was heavy moisture in the air and I had to dry my primary lens

and guide scope lens with a hair dryer every two images. I'm really surprised that I was able to get an image. It's not the greatest image of this object but I'll take it.

Description: I can't do any imaging due to the weather. So I used the time to reprocess some images. In this I attempted bring out more nebulosity detail and to improve the star field. The changes in the image are subtle.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.

Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection.
