This was from a short imaging session one year ago while waiting for another target to become available. I had not really done anything with the data for a year but decided to take a brief look and see what I could make of it. I tried some different stretching options to see how much of the outer part of the galaxy I could see. With only a couple hours of integration time in Bortle 8, it is virtually impossible to separate out the faint outer structures from the noisy background, but I learned a few things from the processing attempt. It made me realize I might be able to come back to my other
M33 image that had more integration time and do some improvement to it, and/or maybe try a more serious imaging session on M33 in a future Fall Season if weather is good. So, this was a useful experiment, and it looks Ok I think given that I had no expectations from the data (fortunately, I didn't just delete it....).
Basically my PixInsight process was:
Blur XTerminator,
Noise Xterminator,
SpectrophotometricColorCalibration(SPCC),
green tint removal(SCNR),
stretching (various ways with both the standard histogram and GHS)
color saturation
