Looking at the weather forecast on Friday December 18th it was apparent that Friday night would be my only shot at the conjunction. So I took the afternoon off and set up my C11 with the Nikon D750 attached. I needed a fairly wide field of view to get both planets at once. The D750 actually has a decent frame rate, and is of course a colour camera.

The sky stayed clear until about an hour after the planets set behind my neighbour's house, just long enough to get a series of 2 minute videos at ISO 1600 ranging from 1/640 second exposures up to 1/60 second. Once I hit the 1/60 exposure (the longest video exposure for the D750), I continued by boosting the ISO from 1600 up to Hi0.3 (above ISO12800) in several increments. I am glad I went up to that ISO level - Titan only appeared in the final video at the highest ISO as a consistent spec beside Saturn in amongst the noise. Stacking took the noise down nicely.

Registax's wavelet function helped the planet details. They sure are tiny though!

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
