Description

Last weekend I found myself with a quiet afternoon in the presence of clear sunny skies, so I turned my telescope to the sun with my recently acquired Daystar Quark chromosphere filter. I shot 51 images in total--27 exposed for the surface, and 24 for the prominences--that I then spent several days trying to process and combine. After several abortive attempts that resulted in "splotchy" outcomes I turned to a friend for advice, and he recommended that I ditch the separate prominence images and just pull those out of the final combined image through exposure adjustments in Photoshop. He also suggested that I not do deconvolution on the individual frames before combining, but rather on the combined mosaic. This seems to be a good approach, and one that I will try again next time I go shooting.
