Description

A reprocess of my Eta Carinae data from 2020.

Eta Carinae Nebula (AKA NGC 3372 or Great Carina Nebula) is a large nebula complex in the constellation Carina. The nebula is approximately 8500 ly from Earth.

It is one of the largest diffuse nebulae in the night sky, with an angular size of 2 square degrees and an estimated radius of 230ly! Although it is four times as large as and even brighter than the Orion Nebula, the Carina Nebula is much less well known due to its location in the southern sky.

This LRGB image was taken with the T10 telescope at Siding Springs Observatory, NSW,  Australia. T10 is a gorgeous Takahashi 130NF optical assembly with an Sbig STX-16803 monochrome camera and a variety of filters. The scope is managed by itelescope.net and imaging sessions can be scheduled through their website.

This image integrates 60 minutes of data: 10x180s luminescence (binned 1x1) and 5x120s of each red, green and blue filters (binned 2x2). The data was calibrated at itelescope making integration with AstroPixelProcessor easier. Final edits in Photoshop.
