Description

The Heart Nebula (IC 1805) is an emission nebula located at an approximate distance of 7,500 light years from Earth, in the constellation Cassiopeia. The name took after its intensely red glowing gas and dark dust lanes forming a shape that resembles a heart symbol. The Heart Nebula along with its neighbor, Soul Nebula, are part of a large star-forming region in the Perseus Arm of the Milky way. The "heart" of the Heart Nebula accommodates an open star cluster (Melotte 15) which contains young, blue, hot supergiant stars which power the red hydrogen glow.
