Description

Overall a lot of internet excitement about this particular sunspot, after months of low to zero activity. I think we caught the sunspot taking an afternoon nap, the sunspot had greater clarity and definition in the morning, along with more activity across the solar disk earlier in the day. Nonetheless, was exciting to get the solar scope outdoors again after such a long break. Made a number of improvements to our process as we did so, in particular gaining some practice with the semi-mysterious Solar Max II controls, for example we discovered we had a slight ghosted image in the picture, easily fixed with the tilt thumbwheel once we noticed it. Additionally we used the sun to 'polar align' (solar align?) by first sending the mount to the sun, using the alt/az knobs to center the sun and then adjusting for framing using the keypad from there (as opposed to recalibrating on the sun). Imaged with the supplied Coronado 2x Barlow - next time we'll try a 3x.

Additional note - there may have been more detail to bring out had I worked with the tuning of the etalons some more.
