Description

The Whirlpool Galaxy, also known as Messier 51 is an interacting grand-design spiral galaxy. Its distance is estimated to be 31 million light-years away from Earth.

This image was captured with limited time to test the capabilities of of a more efficient system.

The larger aperture of the CDK12.5 (317mm), AP tele-compressor @ 0.81x and the very sensitive Sony MX455 in the QHY268m.

Suburban skies (Bortle 5.5)

Final revision used drizzled data to achieve slightly higher resolution.
