Description

M78 is a reflection nebula and compromises the brightest parts of this widefield image. Besides that, a significant amount of ionised hydrogen is present here, as well as dust that blocks the light from the nebulae and stars behind it. In the lower left and upper right parts of the image, several Herbig-Haro objects can be seen.

Since I had very little clear sky these recent months, I decided to forgo all caution and take this image during the full moon. I believe this is the cause for the somewhat diffuse colors of this image. Still, it is a fascinating object and was high up on my "to photograph" list.
