Description

The Gabriela Mistral Nebula taken from my backyard in a Bortle 7 sky.  NGC 3324 is an emission nebula and part of the Eta Carinae Nebula area. Named after Gabriela Mistral, the Chilean Nobel Prize in Literature for its resemblance to her. Located att 7,500 light years from us, it is an active star birth region. NGC 3324 is associated to the open cluster present inside this nebula. The blue region, represnets the doubly ionized oxygen atoms (OIII) in this narrowband image.
