Description

Another go at imaging the North America Nebula and Sadr Region but with the benefit of the Moon not having risen yet.

The final version used Starnet++ and Affinity Photo to create a starless image of just the nebulosity as well as just the stars. These were recombined to reduce the brightness of the stars while enhancing the nebula detail to make it a bit brighter, more contrasty, and more saturated.

Could have done with more integration time but nights are too short here to get much more than 3 hours of decent imaging done. Having a proper dark sky made processing so much easier, but I struggled to get a final image I was happy with due to strong colour casts. Achieving a reasonable pseudo-true colour image in HOO is still something I’m learning.

Lens was set at f2.0 which has resulted in some visible coma on brighter stars but with the limited time available it was a worthwhile trade off.

Description: Revised version composited from starless HOO image plus just the stars obtained using Starnet++. This allows the stars to be de-emphasised and the slightly contrast and saturation-boosted nebulosity to stand out more. This allows greater processing of fine nebula detail without overexposing the stars or giving them a strange colour cast.
