Description

--  Posted as a separate image to show off some spectacular loop-type nebula within the outer regions of M33 that can be seen more easily with a close crop.  Several of the more interesting nebula must be well over 1000 light years across.  --

This image is a crop of M33 in HOO (Revision D).

Inspired by a starless SHO image of M33 by Russell Croman on his astrophotography web page, this is a scaled down HOO version made with more modest equipment.  There are many interesting loop-type nebula and OIII areas.  The largest HII region in M33 is NGC 604 which is approx 1500 light years in diameter and one of the largest HII regions in the entire Local Group - this compares with the Tarantula Nebula at an estimated 1800 light years across and is considered the largest visible HII region in the Milky Way.

Imaged over two nights:  Nov 14, 18, 2021.
