Description

The first of, and for many a year, only shot of one of the most famous and celebrated star groups in the sky (and reflection nebula to boot). Taken with the faithful Nikkor 300 f/4 and the rather new at the time Nikon D50. If you. are wondering why the exposure times are so odd is because, due to a quirk of the D50 all exposures longer than few seconds had a low-pass filter applied to them. The only way to stop that from happening was to switch the bugger off when the time was up so all he single exposures came in all sort of sizes (but around the 5min mark). Obviously the sensor was unmodified but that makes no difference here.
