Description

My latest deep space project has been on Thor's Helmet (NGC 2359), which is an emission nebula caused by ionised gases swept up by winds around the central Wolf Rayet star, an extremely hot star thought to be in the pre-supernova stages of evolution.

This is about 6 hours worth of integration time and the nebula lies around 12,000 light years from us in the constellation Canis Major.

Imaged through the Skywatcher Esprit 100ED with the ZWO 1600GT, 5 min exposures across Ha and Oiii.

Processed in Pixinsight, Photoshop and Lightroom.
