Description

Imaged the conjunction of Mars and the Moon on January 30, 2023.  I was able to watch the distance close over the course of several hours before the pair dropped below the treeline from my observing location.  This is the final image I captured at 05:30 UTC on 1/31/2023 (evening of 1/30 EDT). Not as close as the conjunction of this pair last month (https://astrob.in/qg6ild/0/), but still quite a site!

Imaged with a William Optics GT81 at F4.7 (382 mm focal length) using Flat6A II field flattener/0.8x reducer, IDAS NGS1 broadband LP filter, and ZWO ASI 533MC Pro.

Image capture using Firecapture with gain set at 175 and an exposure of 1.5 ms. Stacking in AutoStakkert3 (best 20% of 500 frames). Wavelet sharpening, color balancing, and histogram adjustment in Registax6.

Rev. B/C: Cropped versions
Rev D:  Compilation of images at 03:14, 04:40, 05:30 UTC showing the distance closing between Mars and the Moon
