Description

I arrived at the cabin with the intent to find some DSOs, and possibly aurora after the moon set, this evening around 11 pm. I was hoping the sun was back up to its old tricks, coronal mass ejection of gas.

I waited until midnight and the aurora began to heat up. I haven't seen it this active since 2018, and this evening proved worth the wait. I took this image to contrast a very old Black Spruce that has been on this jut of rock for as long as the locals can recall.

Ursa Major can been seen, struggling to make his presence felt behind all those charged particles.

Thanks for looking.

Description: This is a shorter exposure of 30 s. I experimented with this variable after realizing that 120 s was creating a mosh of the shifting patterns of the rapidly shifting aurora. This version shows defined vertical curtains of aurora, I think. Thanks for looking!🙂

Description: This is a very long exposure version of this framing and setting - imaged first, before I realized that it was becoming an averaged signal with less and less definition of the individual patterns of flux.
