Description

I first viewed this comet in the fall of 2023 when it appeared as only a drifting green fuzzy patch against the background stars.  Since then it's moved much closer to the sun and is arguably now the most photogenic comet I've seen in a while.  It will reach perihelion in about a month, on April 21 and is expected to be naked-eye visible.  However viewing will be challenging as it will appear very low in the west just after sunset, and will set itself in just over an hour (Northern H).  A great opportunity presents itself on April 8th during the total eclipse when the comet may be visible during the day if you're lucky enough to be in the path of totality.  It should be around 25 degrees away from the sun/moon.  Perfect for a camera lens to capture both of the sights.  I'm looking forward to the unique pictures of the comet and eclipse I know will be posted on this site!  Alas, however, not by me.
