Description

The acquisition of the data for this image of LDN 1251 was especially prolonged over two years due to the untimely failure of both my imaging cameras.  Service is now complete on the FLI 16200 CCD and I was finally able to complete the project.  Thankfully the early data was carefully processed and saved until now.  Great lessons were learned on finally adding data with two different cameras, acquisition times (600 and 300 sec) as well as different pixel sizes (6 and 3.75 microns).  The best feature of the prolonged delay was the continued improvements in processing techniques which made the final image easy to process.  Special thanks to lukomatico who presented Bill Blanshan’s excellent work (anotherastrochannel) on three methods on star reduction.  Very complicated process but Bill provided the final pixinsight  pixelmath equations which made the process simple.  Easy to download the pixelmath equations. Highly recommended.  Thanks also to Sarah Mathews (SarahMathsAstro) who nicely provided techniques for star transfer in her video on forax processing in NB imaging).  Starnet 2 was also used to great advantage in creating starless images for processing. A very old tutorial on processing dust (How to enhance dust without pushing the stars) by Gerald Wechselberger using pixelmath was adapted to the Starnet processing of starless images.  This technique was excellent and definitely worth another look for dust processing using pixelmath equations.
