Description

..., I'm trying to image planets. Although the weather forecast was predicting a clear sky for last night, it turned out that faint clouds covered the sky, preventing a good transparency. Nevertheless, I wanted to give this a try and see how my modified auto focus on the EdgeHD performs and also test the process of planetary imaging again.

Saturn is far too low on the horizon (and not even visible from my telescopes location due to obstructions). Since I don't have an ADC (yet), I have to constrain myself to planets high in the sky and so Jupiter was the logical target. I also captured data of Uranus but I think there's nothing to make out of the data.

Since Jupiter's rotation is very fast, I limited myself to sequences of 3000 frames at about 67 frames per second. As usual, focusing isn't trivial and so I collected several sequences with a slight focus adjustment from sequence to sequence. The images shown are from the best raw data that I was able to gather. The sequences were integrated with Autostakkert and sharpened using waveSharp. Cosmetic processing was done in Affinity photo.

I still have to learn a lot about planetary imaging and might need to add a barlow lens (with a very slight magnification) for a slightly better sampling.

Feel free to give me feedback on the image.
