Dear astronomers,
My kids have been fasciated by the M82 images they've seen in their astronomy books so it was very high on their wishlist and we tried to image it already back in February, but the result was quite "underwhelming" as the starburst region was not nearly comparable to what they knew (and expected).
As we've been working on a nebula project and had some hours per night left because the nebula was already gone, we tried our luck with the Optolong L-eXtreme filter and 800s exposure time on M82 to gather additional "Ha" signal to enrich the RGB data from February. Processing was quite an effort because I didn't want to disappoint them again
Finally, the kids are very happy with the result now, so I also wanted to share it with you.
