I had originally written a long, rambling, self-deprecating write-up citing the law of diminishing returns and how one's imaging conditions can sabotage even a large increase in total integration time, but I had another look at the final result in its entirety and without pixel-peeping and decided my write-up was, at best, a bit unfair to myself and, at worst, unhelpful to those newer to the hobby...
SO, while I
do feel like it might be time for that ASI533MC I've been eyeing (Santa, take note!) I
am happy about the improvement in this year's Andromeda, compared to
last year's effort (which was filterless and un-guided). The dust lanes show more detail, and I didn't have to cheat to get the colours right - last year I really boosted the blues and this year they were just there. I had hoped to add H-alpha data, but that gives me something to work on next year, new camera or not.
Anyway, this one's for my father-in-law Bob, as was last year's. Happy Belated Birthday!
