Description

I observed this object on 24 September 2016 at the Okie-Tex Star Party using a 12” Skywatcher Dobsonian: Bright and well concentrated this globular cluster was easy to spot. Given that this object is over the far side of the galaxy it must be very bright and have a high number of stars.

I obtained the calibrated lights frames used to create the final image from Telescope Live. The frames were imaged by the CHI-1-CMOS Telescope at the El Sauce Observatory in Chile.

Shapley Sawyer Classification: II
Distance: 49,582 LY
Type: Halo Globular
Position w.r.t. core of galaxy: Above the disc and on the far side of the core of the Milky Way.
Any stars resolved: No
Undergoing Core Collapse: No
