Description

Revision 1-18-23b   Applied selective brightness to slightly enhance "spherical" appearance of the "bubble structure".  Just playing around with the data...
Revision  1-18-23a   I applied some subtle "shaping" to the image contrast/detail to better show (subjective) the gas/material expansion of the complex structure of this object.

Imaged 1-17-23 from the Sagrada Observatory, Las Cruces, New Mexico
Telescope:  24" f8 RC   CCD Camera:  FLI-PL-09000 3nm Ha Filter   Seeing conditions were in the 2.5 to 3 arc sec range.

I was fortunate to have a break in the weather last night...   This is an Ha image of ngc2359, commonly called "Thor's Helmet", located in the constellation Canis Major, about 12,000 light years from Earth.  ngc2359 is classified as an emission nebula.

This is somewhat of a test image for a future narrowband color version, that I hope to image in the coming week.   Image data was:  25 x 600 seconds Ha unbinned.  Also, I used the Spider Vane Mask to eliminate diffraction spikes, which seemed to be effective.  This particular image is a bit on the sharp side, so I plan to soften the overall sharpness on the color version.
