Description

I pondered whether this was worth posting, given all the great images out there, but here it is for completeness. This capture was from 22nd December the day after the closest approach. Happily the two planets were still in the same FOV. I was dodging clouds all the way so I am very happy to have this memento.

I used my ZWO ASI 1600MC OSC camera with a C11, which framed the two planets nicely. The ZWO ADC did a good job of avoiding the coloured fringing due to atmospheric dispersion. I made a series of captures at different gains to produce this HDR image, elevating the brightness of Saturn and the various Moons against the image of Jupiter.

At the upper left of Saturn is Rhea, which is difficult to make out, then Titan at its lower left, towards Jupiter. The two moons of Jupiter visible are Ganymede at upper right and Callisto at lower left. Europa was in Jupiter's shadow and Io and its shadow were transiting. You can just make out the shadow transit although it is just a grey smudge.
