Description

One of the brightest globular clusters in the sky, C93 is deservedly known as the Great Peacock Cluster, and were it not for its location in the deep southern sky it should surely be much better known. At magnitude 5.4, it can be readily seen with the naked eye from a rural location. Lying at a distance of about 13 kly it's also one of the closer globular clusters. C86 is another Caldwell object discovered in 1826 by the redoubtable Scottish astronomer James Dunlop during his time working in Sydney, Australia.

This wide field shot also includes an interesting variety of distant galaxies - worth a zoom in!
