NGC 6670

This object is a distant tiny pair of overlapping and interacting edge-on galaxies located 400 million light years away in the constellation of Draco at a declination of +60 degrees. The width in our apparent view of the total object is 1.1 arc-minutes, which corresponds to a width of 130,000 light years.

Although the star streams are surprisingly minimal and the two disks are fairly undisturbed, studies have identified a long hydrogen tail which confirms that they are interacting. The reddish tint of both galaxies suggest the presence of HII and are indicative of star formation. I like the small star cloud at the left edge of the object.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
