Description

This is a total integration of 90 x 60s using the Redcat 51  and ASI 2600MC on a ZWO AM5 mount, guiding on the stars.

Acquisition date 2023-02-13.

Processed in Pixinsight. Very tricky to process as there is a lot of dust in the vicinity of NGC 1647.
This means that when the standard comet processing is followed in Pixinsight the background dust is blurred by
the CometAlign process. One consequence of this is that it is necessary to de-emphasise the background of the
integrated comet-aligned starless image. This makes it hard to see the long ion tail which is in the data and just about visible
in this rendering of the image. On the other hand the stars turned out pretty well.

Might try fiddling with some masks if the urge takes me.

Note added on processing using Pixinsight.

1. WBPP using standard settings for OSC (no local normalisation) including image integration.
Calibration with Master Flat and Master Dark.

2.. Process Master Light produced by WBPP to produce star only image:
- DynamicCrop DC
- DBE
- SPCC
- BlurXterminator (Correct only selected ie applies corrections to stars only for CA etc.)
- Stretch
- NoiseXterminator
- StarXterminator
- Adjust Saturation etc of Stars only image to ensure good colour rendition

3. Process registered images from WBPP to produce comet aligned starless image:
- Use CometAlignment on images registered with WBPP  to produce comet aligned images (default parameters apart from using cursor to select
position of first and last images by double clicking on the respective images. Have to select output directory also.)
- Starxterminator run in batch mode on comet aligned images  to produce starless version of images. I used the large tile option which took 6 mins
per image on my MacBook Pro. CUDA ready PC next purchase!
- ImageIntegration to produce Master starless comet aligned image,
- DC (as in 2 above)
- DBE
- Stretch
- NoiseXterminator - adjust settings for best results
- Curves etc to optimise visibility of comet relative to backgroudn

4. Combine images from 2 and 3 using pixelmath, iterating last step in 3 to taste.
