Description

This iconic planetary nebula is the glowing remains of a sun-like star some 2,000 light years away from Earth in the constellation Lyra. You can barely see the tiny white dwarf star in the center of the ring that expelled a shell of ionized gas into the surrounding interstellar medium and caused this cosmic structure during the last stages of its life.
