Description

IC 1396 is a very cool target.  The Elephant Trunks Nebula.  I have imaged this with a much wider field of view, but last night I thought I would give it a try at 1450mm.  The actual Elephant Trunk part of the whole nebula is very big in this FOV!  it is a little noisy, even with Thirty Seven 180 second images, as I have been fighting a very bright Moon, and we have a lot of smoke drifting through here, north of Boston, from fires in Nova Scotia.  Yesterday and today you could actually smell the smoke, and see the haze down on the ground, so not just in the upper atmosphere.  I am using an Antila Triband RGB Ultra filter, right now, which is becoming my go to filter.  I have been getting great all around results with it, and it seems to really help filter out the effects of the Moon and the smoke.  Going to try some more nebula at this FL, then go back to my Stellarvue 102 for some wider field imaging.  Also still have a few more galaxies to nab!  Clear Skies!
