Description

The Squid Nebula's blue-green emission is from doubly ionized oxygen atoms. It’s completely surrounded by the reddish hydrogen emission region (Sh2-129 flying bat) its believed the Squid really does lie within Sh2-129 some 2,300 light-years away. The squid would represent outflow driven by a triple system of massive stars seen near the center of the nebula. The giant Squid Nebula is nearly 50 light-years across. Decided to go with a wider field of view using a redcat 51. Most of the time my goto is a 8” newt so the redcat was a fun little switch. Shot this over 3 nights of beautiful  clear weather.
