Description

I bought my first camera for deep-sky objects in December 2022. Since then, I have captured many interesting objects, but none quite like my last target: the Medusa Nebula. This nebula, or IC 443, is a nebula that spans approximately 70 light-years and is located about 5,000 light-years away from Earth in the constellation of Gemini. It is the dramatic result of a star's explosion, scattering its elements across space and creating a spectacular formation that resembles a jellyfish with its undulating filaments. This emission nebula is flanked by two stars (the brighter Propus on the left and 12Gem on the right) which somewhat complicate achieving a balanced exposure.
