Description

I had an inexpensive Orion 120ST and an old Canon DSLR 1000D (I bought used for $59). I knew if I was to attempt astrophotography I needed a good mount so I bought a used CGEM (big mistake to buy a used one in hindsight). I went up to Chuchupate to see if I could actually do astrophotography. I took 26 x 50 second subs. I did not use autoguiding as had so much trouble...I was using a Macbook. The next day I used DSS on my iMac running Windows 7 with VMware. Stretched in Photoshop and my God! I was blown away. I really got lucky indeed.

That was in November 2019. I upgraded my scope to a William Optics 102GT for Christmas. My luck continued with the Pleadise and Orion Nebula but these from my backyard in January using a clip in light pollution filter with my Canon. I started to use Pixinsight as I just didn't like the Photoshop experience...never going back. Then the mount started to go haywire and things got difficult. Long story short, my used mount went back to Celestron, they said it was in bad shape, I was able to get a refund from the company I bought it from to apply to the purchase of a new CGEM II. It was set to get shipped from Celestron but that night was the California lockdown...it's been 2 weeks, isolating at home, with my new mount isolating at the warehouse. sucks.
