Description: A brightened version (in iPhoto).

Description: I've reprocessed my M33 data collected under Bortle 2 skies in Scotland. Realising that the focus of my L data was soft, this is the RGB data only, aligned and stacked in Penumbra and then gentle processing in Startools to bring out the detail in the core. There is some noise and an unsightly gradient at the bottom of the image, probably due to light seeping into my camera. With only 38m (120s subs), and no luminance data, it is remarkable the difference that dark Bortle 2 skies make.

Description: I've completely reprocessed my LRGB from last September, removing all data from my narrowband filter, which was soft. This is the LRGB data 60s x 29 L, 120s x 14 R, 12 G, and 10 B respectively. These were stacked and aligned in Nebulosity, then processed in Startools 1.7. A standard workflow, with HDR brightening and more aggressive sharpening and deconvolution, with final brightening, and repair of a few deformed stars at the edge of field.

Description: A saturation boost, and rotated to a more familiar perspective. The bright emissions, dust lanes and young hot blue stars show up well in this version, although I find it a bit too 'bright', overshadowing the subtle spiral arms.

Description:
A final revision to this image, some of my first LRGB data from my Meade DSI III Pro mono camera. The best 60% frames were aligned and stacked in ASTAP and processed in Startools. I changed the orientation of the camera between L and RGB images and have not cropped the image, which comprises 120s exposures (29xL through my L-eNhance narrow band filter, 7xR, 4xG, 3xB) = total 86m integration.
I am pleased with the differentiation, colour and contrast in this final revision, A surprising amount of detail is visible in such limited data, which was taken under Bortle 2 skies in Scotland.

The “AstroBin Image of the Day and Top Picks”, or IOTD/TP, is a long-running system to promote beautiful, interesting, peculiar, or otherwise amazing astrophotographs, with a focus on technical excellence. Learn more.
Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration. | ... |
---|---|
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew. | |
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected. | |
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status. | |
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members. |
