Description

This is the first of a series of images I took during the total  lunar eclipse of 15 May 2022. These were captured from the OKCAC observatory at Cheddar Ranch (CRO), about 40 miles west of Oklahoma City. Conditions were mostly clear, winds were from the north/northeast at 10-15mph, temperature was in the 70F-60F range. Four club members observed the eclipse from CRO. Unfortunately the club’s public outreach site for the eclipse in Norman, Oklahoma, was cloudy for almost the entire event. We could see a cloud bank to the southeast, and right on the horizon we could see lots of lightning. We later determined the lightning was from the area of Denton, Texas, over 200 miles away! A fellow club member got a great image of the partial eclipse with some lightning in the frame! I’m envious.

This image is at about 50% partial. I took about 65 images, but will just show a few representative shots of the whole event.

I used manual settings in Live View. No post editing was performed.
