Description

Rima Hippalus, a prominent linear rille on the lunar surface, is known for its intriguing dark spots that dot its length. These dark spots appear as irregular patches along the rille's walls, creating a contrast against the surrounding lunar terrain. The origin of these dark spots is believed to be related to volcanic activity that occurred in the past, where basaltic lava flows may have covered the original surface and left behind dark, solidified lava deposits. These dark spots may also be impact ejecta from nearby craters that have accumulated along the rille's walls over time.
