Description

Lucky Imaging

M32 is one of three galaxies in the Andromeda family. M32 is easily overlooked because it is dwarfed by its larger sibling M31 and middle brother M110. M32 is the smallest and is a rare compact elliptical that is in orbit around Andromeda.

Some of Andromeda's outer spiral bands can be seen in the upper right portion of the image. I couldn't hardly find any pics of the galaxy by itself so here it is.

Here is an interesting side note that I came across when researching M32 about the other Andromeda brother M110(NGC 205): Charles Messier never assigned M110 to his list. The galaxy was independently discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1783 and her brother William Herschel described her discovery in 1785. The suggestion to assign the galaxy a Messier number was made by Kenneth Glyn Jones in 1967, making it the last member of the Messier List.
