Description

A closeup of the Mare Imbrium "sea" and the lovely Copernicus crater from June 2. The different colors come from the various mineral elements found on the moons surface. Large smooth areas on the moon are called "seas" because they were seas of molten lava billions of years ago as the moon was forming and cooling.

Process: Best 50 images stacked out of 1000 images. Takahashi Mewlon 210. ASI2600 camera. SharpCap to acquire, and AutoStakkert to align and stack. PixInsight for sharpening and color saturation.
