Description

This beautiful, delicate object is an emission nebula located 7500 light years away in the Cassiopeia constellation at a declination of +65 degrees.   The image was processed using the HOO palette and RGB stars.

The nebula is dominated by hydrogen gas, although some oxygen is also present as indicated in the whitish glow towards the core of the nebula. The open star cluster in the center is Stock 18.

The nebula is about 20 arc-minutes in diameter, which corresponds to an actual size of almost 50 light years.  It has the nickname of the Little Rosette Nebula.

The dark dust areas in the outer region of this nebula are interesting, especially towards the bottom.
